Getting the vehicle size right is the single biggest lever on both comfort and price. A coach that's too small means cramped legs, overflowing luggage racks and grumpy passengers; one that's too large means you're paying for empty seats you never needed.
Start with your headcount — then add a buffer. Count every passenger, then add 10–15% for day-of additions. A group of 38 is safer in a 49-seater than a 36-seater, because a couple of extra people never forces a last-minute vehicle swap.
Factor in luggage, not just people. Airport transfers, residential school trips and weekend tours carry far more per person than a day-out shuttle. For heavy luggage, step up one vehicle class or choose a coach with a dedicated rear hold.
Match the journey to the class. Short city hops are fine in a standard minibus; anything over two hours deserves reclining seats, climate control and — for the long Scottish routes — an on-board washroom.
When in doubt, ask. Tell us your group size, luggage and distance and we'll recommend the right class — that's exactly what our advisors are for.
