A coach day trip to the continent is one of the great group travel experiences — and it's more straightforward than most people assume. With the right planning, your group can be sipping coffee in Bruges or strolling the Seine before sunset.
Calais — the easiest taster. Just 90 minutes from Dover, Calais is the perfect first foray. Think a morning market, a long French lunch and a hypermarket run, all back the same evening. It's ideal for schools, social clubs and groups who want a taste of France without an overnight stay.
Bruges — the chocolate-box favourite. A short hop from Calais, Bruges delivers medieval squares, canals and waffles in a walkable centre. A coach gets you door-to-door to the historic core with no parking headaches, and the group stays together from dawn to dinner.
Paris — the ambitious day trip. It's a long day, but it's doable. An early Channel crossing puts you in the capital by late morning, with the afternoon for the Eiffel Tower, a river cruise or the Louvre, and a late run home. It suits motivated groups who want the maximum from a single day.
Eurotunnel vs ferry — the two crossings compared. Both run from Folkestone/Dover to Calais, but the experience differs:
- Eurotunnel (Le Shuttle): Around 35 minutes platform-to-platform, the fastest option. Coaches roll on and roll off with no weather delays. Pricing is per vehicle, so a full coach is very cost-effective per head — but it's a tightly booked service, so reserve early.
- Ferry: Roughly 90 minutes crossing time, but with the advantage of a deck. Passengers can stretch their legs, grab a meal and take in the sea air. Ferries are often cheaper and more flexible on last-minute group bookings, and they run in rougher weather when the tunnel is at capacity.
How to book. Tell us your destination, group size and preferred crossing and we'll build the whole package — coach, Channel crossing and suggested itinerary. Lock the crossing early for the best fares, especially in summer and around school holidays, and we'll hold the same vehicle and driver for the full day.
